The sun erupted a major solar flare this morning at around 4:30am NZT causing a X class solar flare to hurtle towards earth.

The region of the earth facing the sun at the time was South America, likely causing radio black outs and interference within minutes of the solar eruption.

Space weather agencies are now analysing the event to determine whether a coronal mass ejection (CME) occurred in earth's direction. If it did, this would likely mean a strong Geomagnetic storm will arrive on earth in the next 72 hours. Stayed tuned for more on this subject in the days ahead.
