Multiple earthquakes under Ponui Island near Waiheke Island

Auckland's volcanic field had 2 small shallow earthquakes in the first half of April 2020 underneath Ponui Island. The first quake on 8:21pm 6th April registered a magnitude 2.1 at a depth of 4km with the seismic wave arriving at the Hauraki Gulf Weather seismometer within 6 seconds. There were multiple felt reports on neighbouring Waiheke and Rotoroa Islands.


The 2nd quake was in the same location at 3:57am 9th April registering a magnitude 0.9 km. This earthquake was too small to be felt by neighbouring Waiheke and Rotoroa Islands.
